What is PMBA USA membership?

Membership with PMBA USA provides access to certification tracks, study materials, ongoing updates, community support, and career resources. As a member, you stay connected with the latest in medical billing, coding, and compliance.

We currently offer the CPMB® – Certified Professional Medical Biller credential, which validates your knowledge and skills in medical billing, coding, insurance forms, compliance, and more.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma; an associate degree or related background is recommended. A valid working membership with PMBA is also required.

Once you’re a member, complete the online application form. After eligibility is confirmed, you’ll receive login instructions to schedule your computer‑based exam.

The exam covers: medical billing/coding, HIPAA compliance, insurance regulations, CMS‑1500 form knowledge, claim submission processes, and more. CPMB® includes 500 multiple-choice questions; open coding manuals are allowed.

You’ll receive certification credentials, be listed on the PMBA directory, and gain access to member resources. To keep your certification active, a yearly maintenance fee is required.

Certification improves your credentials and demonstrates competence — but employment depends on factors like experience, employer demand, and local regulations.

PMBA USA’s certifications are based on U.S. coding, billing, and compliance standards (e.g. ICD-10, CMS-1500 forms, HIPAA). If you work outside the U.S., check local requirements before relying solely on PMBA credentials.
